HughesNet is highspeed internet access available anywhere in the lower 48 states!

What is HughesNet?

HughesNet is a broadband internet connection available to every household in the lower 48 states with a clear view of the southern sky. Unlike most internet connections Hughesnet uses satellite technology, not your phone line, to offer a super-fast, always on connection to your favorite websites. Hughesnet gets you online instantly and lets you surf, download and enjoy your favorite sites in a fraction of the time it would take on a dial-up modem.

What speeds can I expect from HughesNet?

The HughesNet ProPlus service plan provides download speeds up to 1.5 Mbps and upload speeds up to 200 kbps. The HughesNet Pro service plan provides download speeds up to 1 Mbps and upload speeds up to 200 Kbps. The HughesNet Home service plan delivers download speeds up to 700 Kbps and upload speeds up to 128 Kbps. Keep in mind, all internet technologies both satellite and land-based, share network bandwidth so actual speeds may vary.

Are there computer system requirements for HughesNet?

Yes, however the majority of computers out there today can handle the speeds of the HughesNet system. HughesNet is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. The minimum requirements are:
  • Windows 98SE or higher (including VISTA) or Mac OS 10.1 or higher, and
  • Network capability (10/100 Ethernet pre-equipped)

Is HughesNet compatible with my Mac?

Yes, as long as you are using Mac OS 10.1 or higher you will be able to connect with the HughesNet system. 10/100 Ethernet connectivity is also required.

Can I run a small network with the HughesNet system?

Absolutely! You can connect multiple computers to the internet using one HughesNet Internet connection. Some additional home networking equipment may be required and is not included as a part of the system provided by HughesNet. For Network setup, support, and service contact your network hardware manufacturer. Hughes is not responsible for home network configuration or management.

Please be aware that in the event of using one connection for multiple computers you will be sharing the same amount of bandwidth. This may result in a degradation of speed and is subject to the Fair Access Policy.

Will the HughesNet Certified installer hook up my home network?

You are welcome to inquire about this additional service when scheduling your appointment for installation. It is not included in the basic installation and is up to the discretion of the installer. Furthermore, multiple users sharing one internet connection may result in slower than advertised connection speeds. Uninterrupted service and stated speeds not guaranteed.

If I order HughesNet Service today, when will I be billed?

You will be billed the day you are installed and your HughesNet service is activated. On that day, your first bill will likely include: HughesNet equipment (satellite modem and dish), standard installation by a professional installer*, monthly service fee (customers are forward or advanced billed for service), optional services (if selected at time of purchase), and any applicable taxes. Initial orders must be made via a valid credit/debit card. After the initial order, you may elect to receive a monthly invoice for an additional fee of $5.
*Additional fees for non-standard installations will be charged and paid directly to the professional installer at time of installation.

Will I still need my dial-up modem and telephone line?

No, a telephone line and dial-up modem are not required to use the HughesNet system.

I already have Directv service; do I need to get a new dish for HughesNet service?

Yes, the high speed internet connection requires its own dish in order to send and receive information via satellite. You cannot use your DIRECTV dish to receive HughesNet services.

How long will it take to get my system up and running?

You can expect to receive your professional installation by one of our certified installers within 2 weeks of your order. When you place your order today, your information will be passed along to a local installer in your area and you will be contacted to schedule your appointment for installation. If less than 2 weeks is too soon for you, just place your order when you're ready for HughesNet high- speed Internet service!
