HughesNet Announced Agreement with DISA
HughesNet is a company that reaches out to help in any way it can. Whether that is delivering quality broadband Internet, or contributing funds to fight cancer, HughesNet is more than just a company bent on profits. That is why HughesNet believes in research and progress. Recently, HughesNet has reached a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). The agreement will work with the Regenerative Satellite Mesh (RSM-A) standard and the SPACEWAY 3 system to study IP networking’s Network Centric Enterprise Architecture validation.
The CTO and General Manager of Defense and Intelligence Systems at Hughes, Dan Fraley, said “We look forward to collaborating with DISA on this important satellite networking effort using our SPACEWAY 3 system assets.” The research that will be performed by Hughes and DISA under this CRADA will be on development that deals with integrating Department of Defense (DoD) SATCOM networking with overall IP convergence and the Global Information Grid’s information needs.
HughesNet has described SPACEWAY 3 as “a next-generation, Ka-band broadband satellite system, the world’s first commercial satellite to employ on-board traffic switching and routing capability. Combined with many other advances in satellite technology, such as 10 Gbps overall capacity, fast packet switching, and spot-beam forming, SPACEWAY 3 ushers in a new world of bandwidth-on-demand satellite services, with true site-to-site, single-hop networking of high-performance ground terminals. SPACEWAY 3 was manufactured by Boeing and is based on Boeing’s 702 satellite platform.”
